DECLARE: Dana Nechmad
What does it mean to be contemporary? We asked all eleven of the artists in the show to give us their thoughts, collected in our DECLARE blog series.
Dana Nechmad believes that, in today's extreme political reality, sharing individual experience through emotion and not merely through personal interest is crucial to our society. Her work is a network of personal associations, images, and gestures from my inner world, fears and desires. This is a vulnerable position, but one that gives her great sense of empowerment. When asked what contemporary meant to her, she responded:
"Contemporary is a sense of time and belonging to the present. For me this word comes with the association of actively living and not ‘just’ existing. Participating in the moment, engaging and not only gazing at the past or the future.
